ARTIST STATEMENT
I was drawn to Photography through the work of Ansel Adams. His photographs continue to awe and inspire me all these years later. Unlike Ansel Adams who worked almost exclusively in Black and White I work almost exclusively in Color.
After a period of time working on landscape photography, my focus shifted from photographing nature and excluding the presence of man, to exploring where man and nature meet. The more I photographed the more I became aware of the tension that seemed to exist between them. Sometimes they confront each other, clashing, and at other times there seems to be a more peaceful coexistence.
This interaction of man and nature is all around us but goes largely unnoticed by us. Man’s effect on Nature and how Nature sometimes strikes back to reclaim and at other times slowly healing itself is fascinating to me. This theme of Man vs. Nature has been at the heart of my Art and photographic exploration for some time and is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.
